Guanajuato

The city of Guanajuato is the capital of the municipality and the Mexican state of the same name.
Its name derives from Quanaxhuato, in Purepecha means "mountainous place of frogs" or "Place of Many Hills".
It has 141.196 inhabitants and is located in central Mexico at the beginning of the Sierra del Norte, at 2,000 meters above sea levelwhile the municipality is located in the northeastern region of the state, limited north San Felipe on the east by Dolores Hidalgo, on the south to Salamanca and Irapuato and west Silao and Leon.
The extension of the City of Guanajuato totals 987.28 square kilometers, making its land area accounts for 3.2% of the total areaof the state.
